The Freedom Fund seeks to ensure that all pregnant people in Colorado have equal access to reproductive options and are empowered to exercise their right for reproductive self-determination. The Freedom Fund provides financial assistance to low-income individuals who decide to end their pregnancy. We work with several providers in the Denver Metro area who determine the amount of financial help a person needs in order to have an abortion. They then bill us for that amount which is within the budget established between the Freedom Fund and the provider. Pregnant people come to The Freedom Fund in crisis and in need of assistance.
The Freedom Fund was established by the First Universalist Church (Denver) in 1984 when Colorado voted to end Medicaid funding for abortions. In 2010 The Fund moved to the Mountain Desert District of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
For the past 29 years, The Freedom Fund has provided financial assistance to those decide to have an abortion. In recent years we have been able to help more and more people: 400 in 2010; 350 in 2011; and 680 in 2012.
